Can Lifestyle Blogs Make Money?

Yes, you can make money with lifestyle blogs, but it might be harder to accomplish substantial revenue than a niche blog that’s focused on a singular topic.

Lifestyle blogs often cover a wider spectrum of topics and aren’t bound by a niche. Usually paired with the personal journal of the creator or influencer, which isn’t always SEO-driven content.

My observation tells me that a lifestyle blog requires strong personal branding.

Most of the readers follow lifestyle bloggers because they talk about topics that resonate with them, and often stem from a personal experience or life journal.

The reason why lifestyle blogs make money is not because of content alone, it’s:

  • Strong social media presence
  • Focus on personal brand equity
  • Visually striking content (think travel, landscapes, family, unboxing, etc.)

Should You Start A Lifestyle Blog?

I would, but I am not the person who knows how to take proper photos (I seriously can’t lol), and I am not an Instagram person.

If you’re willing to take plenty of photos and are ready to share stories with the rest of the world, you should give it a shot.

Don’t use those stock photos or common creatives that have been recycled and overused by millions of bloggers. They add zero value to your blog or brand.

People appreciate that half-blurry picture you took with your iPhone over a generic stock photo.

Although this particular industry is highly competitive, it’s not impossible to earn a living from it.

I would start with 2-5 main categories or interests and start to explore what your audience is looking for.

You’re The Brand As A Lifestyle Blogger

Never forget that lifestyle blogs are approached differently than niche blogs.

Many niche blogs are faceless and make bank without knowing who’s behind them.

The opposite is true for a lifestyle blog. You are the face and the brand, and it’s fueled by personality across socials, content, and stories you’re telling.

Most successful lifestyle blogs have managed to capture:

  • A particular audience
  • An audience that relates to the creator

That’s what makes them so strong.

Tips To Create A Successful Lifestyle Blog

If I were to start a lifestyle blog, I would consider the following:

  • Tell personal stories – Your audience can resonate with you on a deeper level.
  • Always use photos you took, not generated AI images or stock photos.
  • Document unboxing experiences from your favorite brands and share your opinion
  • Use Pinterest – The best platform for driving quality social media traffic
  • Omni channel – Tell your story across different platforms, including Threads and Instagram
  • Be original, and include personal challenges or struggles that people love to follow
  • Focus on SEO to drive traffic
  • Put in a lot of effort into your brand

How To Monetize Your Lifestyle Blog?

There’s not much difference between a niche blog, except that lifestyle bloggers are considered influencers and have a wider variety of options, including:

  • Brand deals with relevant products
  • Becoming a brand ambassador
  • Product placements through social media and content
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Newsletter content and ad placements
  • Own product line, or a small e-commerce attached to the blog

Final Word

If you’re willing to put in a lot of hard work into a lifestyle for about 2-3 years and are great with social media, then you’re having a decent chance of making 4-5 figures each month with a lifestyle blog.

Start your blog with a few categories, niche down once you find your audience, and listen to what they want to read from you.

But foremost, have fun blogging and documenting your journey!
